Russian submarines could cut off communications cables between the US and the UK, a defence chief has warned. Sir Stuart Peach, chief of the British defence staff, said Russian ships have been spotted close to Atlantic cables which are essential for international commerce and the internet. A report by think tank Policy Exchange estimated earlier this month that $10tn is transmitted in transactions through the cables. Read More: https://goo.gl/eGvX91
Russian submarines have dramatically stepped up activity around undersea data cables in the North Atlantic, part of a more aggressive naval posture that has driven Nato to revive a Cold War-era command, according to senior military officials. The apparent Russian focus on the cables, which provide internet and other communications connections to North America and Europe, could give the Kremlin the power to sever or tap into vital data lines, the officials said. Russian submarine activity has increased to levels unseen since the Cold War, they said, sparking hunts in recent months for the elusive watercraft. Read More: https://goo.gl/R6nuVm
The most crazy stunt ever..2 guys in a cable drum going down a mountain..the impact must be pretty painful!
Guys are checking phone cables.
A Russian adrenaline junkie used his bare hands to grab a rusty cable he was zip-lining across to try to slow down, leaving parts of his skin and blood behind. A video posted by YTI-OG on Vimeo shows Sergey Utyugov and another man stand at the edge of a mountain in Nagorno-Karaback, a region in the south Caucasus at Azerbaijan. In front of them is a length of rusty metal cable stretching out over a steep valley. The two men rig up some home-made zip line equipment and rocket out over the vertigo-inducing valley. But as the crude zip line gear gathers momentum the pair are forced to grab the cable to slow down, without any gloves. Commenting on his Facebook page Mr Utyugov said they had to take off their gloves early into the descent. "The edge of fabric gloves got between the rope an...

Lithuania has accused Russia of attempting to disrupt construction of an undersea power cable to Sweden that would reduce the country's dependence on Russian energy. Vilnius says in recent days and on a number of occasions Russian warships illegally ordered a Swedish vessel that was laying the NordBalt power cable to change course. 10 lives were left hanging by a thread - literally - when an extreme thrill ride on a rocket-like attraction almost ended in tragedy. Visitors to one of St. Petersburg's amusement parks were in for a nasty shock as a cable snapped on the ride, leaving them suspended in mid-air 70 meters above the ground. Luckily, rescue teams made it to the spot just in time to free the stranded passengers. This isn't the first safety scare at the amusement park. Two years ago, a 12-year old girl suffered serious injuries after a trampoline accident - also involving a snapped cable. Four hundred miles west of Moscow is St. Petersburg, Russia. A striking city resting on the banks of the Neva River, St. Petersburg has long been a draw for lovers of architecture, as St. Petersburg tours often begin with the city's legendary structures. Next, pay a visit to St. Isaac's Cathedral and its gold-plated dome, which glitters in the sunshine. If you walk to the top of its dome, you wi...
